The Great Escape

Filed under: Cat, Rabbits — Administrator @ 8:07 pm

Several months ago JD started opening the door to Tuscan and Moose’s room so he could drink their water.  He really likes water, usually water that isn’t his or is in the tub, sink, shower, toilet, etc.  We put hooks on the screen door so he couldn’t get in there.  After hitting his head on the door a few times he finally gave up so I stopped using the hook months ago.  Well, today while I was at work he decided he wanted to go back in there so he opened the door….   Luckily the door to the guest room was closed.  The bonus room is already bunny proof since they get to play in it each night so the only room they could get into that they aren’t allowed into was the bedroom.  When I got upstairs and saw the door open I called them and they came running from the bonus room where they probably spent most of the day sleeping.  They did do some damage in the bedroom!  Nothing major.  No biting of the furniture or electrical cords which is a miracle.  Apparently they were too busy eating JD’s cat grass and digging in the palm tree pot.  Silly bunnies.  I image they had a very fun day.  They aren’t running and playing much tonight.  I guess they are tired.  Oh, and JD was downstairs when I got home.  I guess they ran him out of the bedroom.

JD’s grass….  or what used to be his grass.  It was about 4 inches high this morning.

All Grown Up

The babies aren’t babies anymore…..  I guess we can call them pre-teens.  :)  Kayla who is now Cody started picking fights and now he has to live all by himself.

He seems to be okay on his own.  Bella also has to be separted from her little boys.  Here is a picture I took of Bella with one of her boys (Nibbles).  I hate breaking them up, but we don’t want anymore babies!!

I did get some great pictures and a video of Bella feeding them all (minus Cody) for the last time.

Bunny Update

Filed under: Rabbits — Administrator @ 6:55 pm

Well, all the babies are over 2 pounds now!  The biggest one weighs as much as Moose.  I have most of them named.  Of course they may change when we find out if they are boys or girls.  For now we have Oliver, Nibbles, Kayla, Tux and Nellie.  So that leaves one to name.  The only one without a name is the all black one.  I will have to see if a name hits me this week.  Here are some updated pictures.

The biggest (Kayla) weighing in at 2.5 pounds and smallest (Oliver) weighing in at 2 pounds

Tux - I gave him this name (or Tuxie for a girl) because he has the most beautiful white whiskers and that adorable white spot on his nose.  Dawn said he looks like a Tuxedo rabbit so Tux is his name!

Nellie got her/his name because she is my nervous nellie.  She is always scared and thinks you are out to get her - a lot like Moose!

The House Rabbit Gathering

Filed under: Rabbits — Administrator @ 8:01 pm

Sunday Dawn and I hosted our first House Rabbit Gathering.  We had a great turn out on such a windy and cold day.  We also were able to raise over $100 for local rabbit rescues.  One rescue benefiting from the raffle is Sabrina’s House Rabbit ResQ in Rocky Mount.  Click here to see their website.  They are an incredible organization that cares for special need bunnies.  They brought with them two of their rabbits….  Flemish Giants!!  They were a huge hit.  Here are a couple pictures.  For those of you who can’t grasp their size.  They are both bigger than JD and their ears are as long as my hands.

Growing Up

Filed under: Rabbits — Administrator @ 8:10 pm

Well, we have had these guys for three weeks and they have grown so much!!  Make sure to scroll down and see some of the pictures of them the first week we had them.  Look at the difference in their ears.  One of the black ones has huge ears!  I want to name them after Disney characters and that one could really be Dumbo, but I just can’t do that to him.   :)  They have discovered their teeth and have grown to dislike being held.  It is sad….  I miss the cuddly days.  There are still two that let me hold them and most of them like being petted, but a couple are really independent and don’t have time for my love.  They are exploring everything, always checking stuff out.  For the most part they continue to use the litter box, but have a few accidents.  They have all figured out how to jump up on the shelf in their cage.  The smallest one continues to be the bravest.  He chased the cat around tonight.

Thanks to those of you who have been kind enough to send donations.  There are lots of bunnies to spay/neuter.  In fact one of the females that was rescued had 8 babies last week.  Please send any donations to me.  The donations are not tax deductible, but give anyway!!  I will use the money toward their spay/neuter and not towards supplies.  Thank you!  I promise some pictures of Tuscan, Moose and JD soon….  maybe even one of us.
