Squirrel Update
Monday, March 30th, 2009Today while “working” from home Casey got a few pictures of the squirrel trying to get the bird seed. I guess he has figured out he can’t climb the pole with the Vaseline so today he tried jumping onto the bird feeder. He jumped on the top which was made to keep squirrels away so he fell off just like he was supposed to! I am suprised he hasn’t tried to jump to the middle yet. I guess that is for tomorrow. I saw him tonight when I was making dinner. He had given up and was just eating seeds on the ground. So far he is the only one trying to get to the bird feeder, but I suppose it is only a matter of time. I like to feed them so now they all come our yard for food.
I think they are cute!
Jill’s Shower and Bird Feeder
Sunday, March 29th, 2009It took me a week, but I thought I would put some pictures up of the shower I had here last weekend for my good friend and co-worker. Jill is having a little girl in May and her room is decorated with Winnie the Pooh so I had a Winnie the Pooh shower!! I went a bit overboard which I usually do with showers, but it was so much fun. I made chocolate suckers shaped like Pooh, Piglet and Eeyore as the favors. I made cupcakes with bees on them which were super cute. We played Gift Bingo and guess the number of Bit O Honey in the jar. I also had a Winnie the Pooh piggy bank and had people put wishes for Kaylee in it. Everyone had a great time and Jill got lots of great stuff.
Flowers Allison gave me from her yard:

Today we put out the bird feeder mom and dad got us for Christmas. We went to Lowe’s and picked up some seed and then set up the feeder. It didn’t take long for the birds to find it… and the squirrels! We got a few pictures of the squirrel checking out the feeder and eventually figuring out how to get to the seed. So we went out and put some Vaseline on the pole and then waited for him to come back. It only took him a few minutes to come back to the feeder and try to climb it. He jumped on and slid right now it! It was hilarious!!
Finally made it to the top, but didn’t know what to do once he got up there (check out the cardinal watching him)

Second attempt he makes it to the top and gets to the seed…. Cardinal still watching him

Tuscan and JD Updates
Thursday, March 12th, 2009After 10 days of eye drops 3 times a day it looks like Tuscan’s eye is all better! Let’s just hope it doesn’t come back. I am so glad we don’t have to give him the drops anymore because it was not fun. Rabbits don’t really like being tipped over!
I spoke with Dr. Wendy on Tuesday and she didn’t feel it was necessary to do an ultrasound on JD since he has stopped throwing up for now. She didn’t mention doing the biopsy yet so hopefully we can put that off for awhile. We are going to start him on an antibiotic for three weeks and then do more blood work. There are a couple infectious diseases he could have picked up from fleas/ticks. He doesn’t go outside and I have only found one flea on him in 4 years, but I guess it is still possible. If his blood work doesn’t look better after the antibiotics we will try treating him for IBD for awhile and see if there is an improvement in his blood work. If neither works we are probably looking at a type of intestinal cancer. Dr. Wendy said if he had the most aggressive form he wouldn’t be here right now so we can rule that one out. His red blood count is good so that is a good sign it isn’t cancer, but we can’t rule it out just yet.
Yep, back to the vet we go…..
Sunday, March 8th, 2009The last few weeks JD has started throwing up a lot more so I called the vet on Thursday to see if I should bring him in to be examined. They of course said yes, they always do. Since he had his surgery in November he hasn’t thrown up much and has had a lot more energy. Then I started to notice puke a lot…. probably 4-5 days a week, mostly in the morning. So Friday he spent the day at the vet and had x-rays taken. His stomach was full of food so they were concerned he had some kind of blockage. After having the vets at NC State examine his film the vet decided an emergency ultrasound wasn’t needed. Instead she asked us to fast him and bring him in Saturday morning for another x-ray. So yesterday morning we spent two hours at the vet. The food had left his stomach and appeared to be moving through his system, but it is hard to tell with x-rays. Then the vet went to review his blood work. It wasn’t good. Same problem he had in August of last year. I have no idea what is is or how to pronounce it, but at the time the vet was thinking it was some kind of tumor in his digestive track. She hoped the numbers were off because of the stones so we went ahead with his surgery. Maybe his blood work never got better. We didn’t do blood work after the surgery. So they are going to call me today with a plan. He probably is going to need an ultrasound and biopsy. I think they biopsy will require opening him up again. We may or may not go ahead with treatment. It is a hard decision because we don’t really know what is wrong with him or if it can be treated. I will update as we know more. Here a two pictures I took of him yesterday.
We Won!!
Wednesday, March 4th, 2009No, not the lottery, but I think I should have played. Rabbit Day was Saturday and we won first and fourth place in the photo contest. Thanks to everyone that voted for us! I didn’t accept the 4th place prize, didn’t want to be greedy. However the first place prize is awesome!! It is a huge basket full of baskets and toys from Busy Bunny which is our favorite place for toys. My name was also pulled from the raffle box twice (I only entered 3 times)!! I won a couple books. I guess Saturday was my luck day. Oh, Apple’s picture won first place, but Tuscan and Moose got his prize.
